I just love the idea of this. The goal is to "inspire a new generation of viable, super-efficient vehicles [100+ MPG] that help break our addiction to oil and stem the effects of climate change".
And there is a $10m prize fund to make it commercially worthwhile. And let's face it, whoever invents the transport of tomorrow stands to not only make a bit of cash but more importantly they could be a huge global hero.

The car doesn't need re-inventing, the governments worldwide need to stop the monopoly the oil companies have and put more funding in to greener/cleaner fuels.
