My Spring 08 favourites: Travel

To highlight our fab Natural Collection Spring 08 range I am going to do a series of 'my top three picks' along various themes starting with travel.

My top three Natural Collection must-haves to travel with this summer include:

Stay dry: Eco-friendly Rain Shell Breathable Jacket by Patagonia

Stay connected: Wind-up splash-proof radio (with LED flashlight and mobile charging facility)

Stay bite free: Mozzie Off Plant-Oil Insect Repellent

What do you think? What would your top three travel faves from our site be?

Cheers

Walk it: getting people back on their feet

I often find myself travelling short distances by London Tube and so the Walk It site is becoming more and more useful to me. Basically, instead of travelling the one or two stops between meetings by tube it can often be quicker and healthier to walk - distances in between London Tube stations can be geographically quite small - and even if it is not quicker just getting back out on to the streets and in to the fresh air is better all round. They are even now developing pollution-aware walking routes for the inner city area.

Walk It covers London, Newcastle, Birmingham & Newcastle/Gateshead although I have only tested it in London so far. It shows you the A to B mapped route to walk along with likely journey times at various average walking speeds and the calories you are likely to burn.

What a good idea.

10,000,000 reasons to re-invent the car

I just love the idea of this. The goal is to "inspire a new generation of viable, super-efficient vehicles [100+ MPG] that help break our addiction to oil and stem the effects of climate change".

And there is a $10m prize fund to make it commercially worthwhile. And let's face it, whoever invents the transport of tomorrow stands to not only make a bit of cash but more importantly they could be a huge global hero.

Thinking caps on people!

Cheers

Wind-powered ships?

Wind-powered shipping! What an amazing and totally simple idea. No shortage of wind at sea and in this test the wind provided 20% of the power needed. And it is a big ship...not just a wee rowing boat. So there is no room for cynicism here. And with more and bigger sails the sky is literally the limit...

And if you think that's cool then check out these Air Powered cars.

Yabba Dabba Sustainable?

Who'd have thought that the humble Flintstones could help in the fight against Obesity and Climate Change? Well both issues can be addressed by some seriously ingenious inventions that I would love to see more of.
