Just found this idea of vertical urban farms a fascinating idea. Not sure how viable it is but it is definitely seriously clever lateral thinking, or should that be vertical thinking?
What are your thoughts?

I really want to see this project succeed because I think this is could be a solution to are rising food shortage…I am trying to get the first working tower built: http://www.thepoint.com/campaigns/vertical-farm-in-new-york-city

Hmm. Interesting idea.
Not sure about the Health and Safety implications of the design shown though. Maybe something a bit more along the lines of Gaudi's work on parks and public spaces? Perhaps we ought to start focusing on simple local permaculture first and swap a few of our lawns for veggie beds?

Awesome! Very pleasing design... Don't know if they thought of everything... How big is each platform? Is it soil based? That would get extremely heavy especially during waterings. Also no protection from city pollutants or harmful pest. The end result would be poor quality food and low amounts produced. This design would most likely feed a very very minimum percent. I'll post my design after it's patent.

It is a great idea. but I don't think that it will get popular until there are less green zone specially in the city.

The project looks good but I don't think that it is achievable.
